DSA Awards $27 Million for Housing Initiatives

The Ohio Development Services Agency (DSA) announced recently that it has awarded more than $27 million to 41 communities to rehabilitate, repair, and construct affordable housing for low-income Ohioans as well as provide homeownership and rental assistance. The Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program grants are funded by the Ohio Housing Trust Fund, federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs.

“We’re working with communities across the state to improve the quality of life for Ohioans,” said David Goodman, DSA director.

The Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program uses a flexible, community-wide approach to improve affordable housing for low- and moderate-income Ohioans and neighborhoods.

The grants include the following:

Athens County will receive a $1,050,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes, repair 23 owner-occupied homes and 12 rental homes, construct two new homes with Habitat for Humanity, and provide homeownership assistance to one household that will include a fair housing component. The county will partner with the cities of Athens and Nelsonville.

Auglaize County will receive a $250,000 grant to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes, and repair 10 owner-occupied homes. The county service area includes the cities of St. Marys and Wapakoneta.

Belmont County will receive a $638,100 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and repair 15 owner-occupied homes. The county will partner with the city of Martins Ferry.

Brown County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate five owner-occupied homes, repair 10 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to 10 households.

Carroll County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate five owner-occupied homes, repair nine owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to four households.

City of Cambridge (Guernsey County) will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes and repair 16 owner-occupied homes. The city will partner with Guernsey County.

City of Fairborn (Greene County) will receive a $305,200 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes.

City of Fostoria (Seneca County) will receive a $1,050,000 grant to rehabilitate 16 owner-occupied homes, and repair 24 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes. The city also will complete septic repair at one home and provide rental assistance to assist eight households and include a fair housing component. The city will partner with Seneca County and the city of Tiffin.

City of Lancaster (Fairfield County) will receive a $250,000 grant to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a home.

City of Medina (Medina County) will receive a $647,700 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 15 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to six households. The city will partner with the city of Brunswick.

City of Mount Vernon (Knox County) will receive a $750,000 grant to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes, repair 17 owner-occupied homes, provide rental assistance to 10 households and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two new homes. The city will partner with Knox County.

City of New Philadelphia (Tuscarawas County) will receive a $386,400 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 18 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to eight households. The city will partner with the city of Uhrichsville.

City of Salem (Columbiana County) will receive a $600,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and repair 14 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes. The city will partner with the city of East Liverpool.

City of Shelby (Richland County) will receive a $653,300 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and repair 15 owner-occupied homes. The city will partner with Richland County.

City of Toronto (Jefferson County) will receive a $658,100 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes, repair 17 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to six households. The city will partner with Jefferson County.

Clinton County will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate seven owner-occupied homes, repair 16 owner-occupied homes, provide rental assistance to nine households, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes. The county will partner with the city of Wilmington.

Columbiana County will receive a $543,200 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and repair 16 owner-occupied homes. The county will partner with the city of Columbiana.

Crawford County will receive a $1,000,000 grant to rehabilitate 14 owner-occupied homes, repair 22 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to three households. The county will partner with the cities of Bucyrus and Galion.

Defiance County will receive a $1,150,000 grant to rehabilitate 19 owner-occupied homes, repair 19 owner-occupied homes and six rental homes, and provide rental assistance to three households. The county will partner with the city of Defiance and Paulding County.

Fairfield County will receive a $359,200 grant to rehabilitate five owner-occupied homes, repair 12 owner-occupied homes, and provide homeownership assistance to two households.

Gallia County will receive an $800,000 grant to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes, repair 24 owner-occupied homes, partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes, and provide homeownership assistance to three households. The county will partner with Meigs County.

Hancock County will receive a $750,000 grant to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes and repair 18 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes. The county also will help Habitat for Humanity build two new homes and provide rental assistance to six households, including a fair housing component. The county will partner with the city of Findlay.

Hardin County will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 16 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to eight households. The county will partner with the city of Kenton.

Henry County will receive a $1,400,000 grant to rehabilitate 22 owner-occupied homes, repair 25 owner-occupied homes and six rental homes, and provide rental assistance to six households. The county will partner with the cities of Napoleon and Wauseon, as well as Fulton County.

Highland County will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and repair 14 owner-occupied homes. The county will partner with the city of Hillsboro.

Holmes County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate five owner-occupied homes, repair nine owner-occupied homes, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes.

Jackson County will receive a $1,000,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes and one rental home, repair 23 owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to 22 households. The county will partner with the cities of Jackson and Wellston.

Licking County will receive a $606,400 grant to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes, and repair 12 owner-occupied homes. The county will partner with the cities of Heath and Pataskala.

Lorain County will receive a $979,100 grant to rehabilitate 15 owner-occupied homes and repair 23 owner-occupied homes and three rental homes. The county also will provide rental assistance to 15 households. The county will partner with the cities of Oberlin and Sheffield Lake.

Lucas County will receive a $1,050,000 grant to rehabilitate 15 owner-occupied homes and repair 26 owner-occupied homes and two rental homes. The county also will partner with Habitat for Humanity to construct one new home. The county will partner with the cities of Maumee and Oregon.

Mahoning County will receive an $850,000 grant to rehabilitate 16 owner-occupied homes, and repair 39 owner-occupied homes. The county will partner with the cities of Campbell and Struthers.

Mercer County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes, repair nine owner-occupied homes, and provide rental assistance to 10 households. The county will partner with the city of Celina.

Muskingum County will receive a $750,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes, repair 16 owner-occupied homes and four rental homes, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build three new homes. The county will partner with the city of Zanesville.

Noble County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate two owner-occupied homes, repair 10 owner-occupied homes, provide homeownership assistance to three households, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build one home.

Ottawa County will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 15 owner-occupied homes and three rental homes, and provide rental assistance to 11 households. The county will partner with the city of Port Clinton.

Perry County will receive a $1,100,000 grant to rehabilitate 11 owner-occupied homes and three rental homes, repair 26 owner-occupied homes and six rental homes, provide homeownership assistance to two households, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes. The county will partner with the city of Logan and Hocking County.

Ross County will receive a $750,000 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 16 owner-occupied homes, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build one home. The county will partner with the city of Chillicothe.

Trumbull County will receive a $250,000 grant to rehabilitate four owner-occupied homes and repair five owner-occupied homes.

Vinton County will receive a $400,000 grant to rehabilitate six owner-occupied homes and repair 12 owner-occupied homes.

Williams County will receive a $700,000 grant to rehabilitate 10 owner-occupied homes, repair 11 owner-occupied homes and four rental homes, provide rental assistance to four households, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a home. The county will partner with the city of Bryan.

Wood County will receive a $600,000 grant to rehabilitate nine owner-occupied homes, repair 18 owner-occupied homes, and partner with Habitat for Humanity to build two homes. The county will partner with the city of Northwood.
